About Dr. Googel
From New Britain, Connecticut, Dr. Googel discovered his passion for oral surgery during his general practice residency in hospital dentistry. He enjoyed the medical aspects of this speciality and the ability to help people overcome facial and oral health problems. When caring with his patients, Dr. Googel values open communication and always takes the time to talk and explain procedures in a way they can understand. He finds it incredibly rewarding to help others achieve better oral health and provide care in a safe, calm, and painless manner.
Dr. Googel practiced in Newington for over 45 years and served as the oral surgeon for the Hospital of Special Care before joining Avon Oral, Facial and Dental Implant Surgery. He is currently on staff at Hartford Hospital, where he works with residents and also serves on the Credentialing Committee. Previously, he has served on the Medical Staff Council Credentialing Committee and the CCMC Medical Staff Council Operating Room Committee. Dr. Googel is also a clinical instructor at UCONN School of Dental Medicine and was presented with the Faculty Teaching Award by the residents.
Dr. Googel was the past president of the Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He was also instrumental in passing a bill in the Connecticut State Legislature, allowing insurance coverage for hospitalizations of children for dental procedures.
He was a member of the Newington Town Council and the Newington Board of Education, having also served as Chairman of the Board, and was the founder and president of the Newington Education Foundation. Currently, Dr. Googel serves on the committee for Newington Greater Together Community Fund and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
Education & Residency
Dr. Googel received a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology from Brown University in 1966. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 1970 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Following dental school, he completed his general practice residency at Norwich Hospital in 1971 and his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Hartford Hospital in 1974.

Dr. Googel is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS).
Hobbies & Interests
Dr. Googel has been a Mountain Host at Mount Snow for 30 years, and enjoys hiking, photography, and spending time with his family.
